Returning to College and Three Group Shows

Drawing 1 landscape

Sketchbook assignment

I have enrolled in the Drawing 1 course at Penn Valley Community College for the summer semester class as my very first for-credit art class.  The instructor, Marybeth Moley, a great teacher, asked why?  Was I an art major?  Did I want another degree?  "No", I said.  Just because I never have before and just because I want to.

Penn Valley is the same lovely red brick buildings and walkways as in the late 1970's when I last attended there to receive an associate of arts degree.  The difference is me.  Now, I'm there to gain a specific knowledge and the fun of that gain.  And it is - so much fun!

The work is all done in class 8:30 to 11:15 M-Thur, where the instructor, Marybeth Moley, can monitor the process.   Now, as opposed to the 1970's, because of my life experience and painting background, I can relax, enjoy the process, and the social environment.   The buildings, time, events, all fade away while drawing.  The end of class is like waking up in the morning after a wonderful restorative sleep and peaceful dreams.

Today, MaryBeth discussed, with a visiting former co-worker, that 65 and older can get any class, course, or degree program, credit or otherwise - for free.  No-one need "audit", the credit is free also!  I'm not 65 yet for a few more years, but it makes for great future prospects, in my opinion.
