Thundering Oaks Show and Sale at Vivelor Gallery
A paint-out competition is a plein air painting event in which artists paint depictions of landscapes painted completely out-of-doors from a scene in front of their eyes. These paintings are turned in for comparison to each other. They are then evaluated by a judge who awards prizes for first, second, third and honorable mention.
It so happened that I have organized and set up one one of these events. It sort of happened by itself.
I found out about two men, from a mutual acquaintance, who own a newly acquired and renovated, beautiful acreage in Independence, Mo. These two, Pete and Curt, art lovers and collectors, were wanting artists to paint paintings of their property. I saw this as an opportunity to bring artists together to paint these scenes at Pete and Curt's; and, I decided that our art (mine as well as the other artist-competitors) should be seen in a gallery as well. So, I made a few phone calls and sent a few emails asking to put on an exhibit and announcing the event to other artists.
Today, these paintings are hanging in my studio, in all their splendor, waiting to be judged. I have four pieces included. After Mark Weber, http://markchristopherweber.com/, my original oil painting teacher, chooses the winners in two categories, plein-air pieces and painted in the studio pieces, they will go to Vivelor gallery to be displayed during the months of November and December.
Vivelor, http://www.vivilore.com/, is an iconic restaurant/gallery/antique shop in the Englewood arts district of Independence at 10815 E Winner Road. It is a wonderful experience of art, food, and drinks and will hold the opening reception on November 5, Saturday 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The awards will be announcemented at 6:00 pm. We would all love to see everyone there. Everyone is invited to this wonderful art event and opportunity for a fun evening, a gift buying experience and a chance to meet many Kansas City artists as well.
